The 13th District is currently represented by Republican Vito Fossella. As New York City’s only Republican member of Congress, Fossella has been a rubber-stamp for the Bush-Cheney White House.

The District covers Staten Island and part of southwest Brooklyn. This forum is being held in Manhattan to make it possible for many people to attend. Please contact us if you know of any candidate forums in the 13th CD, as we would be happy to help promote: info@dfnyc.org.

If any one attends this forum, please ask Councilman Recchia why he is supporting turning Asser Levy Park, one of the only green spaces available in Brighton Beach/ Coney Island into a concrete Amphitheater. If he does it in Brooklyn he'll do it in Staten Island. The amphitheater will be run by private business, therefore Alienation of Parkland is in this project, but I guess Mr. Recchia dosen't give a sh*t. Mr. Harrison please ask him about this project & how it effects the enivronment with car traffic, asthma rates, etc. especially that the park is now used by kids to run around, dog walkers & senior citizens just out for the day to sit on benches for a couple of hours. And it's going to cost over $50 million dollars, so that Mr. Recchia's & Mr. Markowitz's legacies will be written in stone.

In response to the above blog, you forgot to mention that this $50 million dollars could go to fix up the Boardwalk that is in a terrible & unsafe state, for both walkers & runners. Use that money for more affordable housing in Coney Island, which is needed more than a concert hall. When they built the Abe Stark ice skating rink in Coney Island it fell onto disrepair because there was never any funding to maintain the facilities, also Mr. Markowitz did such a great job with the Parachute lighting, that they are doing it all over again for another $ million or so. Great Minds, Great Planners. They surely know how to waste our taxpapyer monies for their pet ego projects.

Roaslie907: I would love to attend the forum, however I have to work the night shift tonight. But I'm 100% sure you are very capable of asking those questions to Mr. Recchia. Thank You.
