Polls last week suggest that Clinton and Spitzer could win by more than two and a quarter million votes each on Nov. 7 even in a moderate turnout.
Not only is a Democratic tidal wave heading for New York, but the protective dike that a popular president could provide has washed out. Bush's favorability ranking in New York is now running 10 points behind his national score - which is in the mid-30s.
