Fossella will NOT seek re-election

This is breaking all over. Fossella is officially not seeking re-election. What does this mean? Well a very shortened campaign for Republican potentials who want to jump into this race.

May 22 is the date to watch;

In one sign of the political turmoil here, the borough Republican Party said yesterday it postponed candidate interviews that had been scheduled for next week.

The interviews, which were supposed to be held May 15, will now likely be held May 22, according to borough GOP chair John Friscia.

They can't delay it much later as June 3 ballot petitioning starts. Expect DA Dan Donovan to have most of the field cleared for him. If there is a fight it will come from Sen. Lanza with Fossella's backing.

And Then There were Four

Rep. Reynolds (NY-26) has announced he will retire at the end of this term. He has been plagued by scandal, overseeing Fossella's former treasurer Chris Ward at the NRCC while he was apparently robbing them blind. Reynolds joins the list of Republicans who are seeing New York trend Democrat and finding it harder to win re-election. Of the 29 Congressional seats in New York, only 6 are currently held by Republicans;

* Peter King NY-03
* Vito Fossella NY-13
* John McHugh NY-23
* James Walsh NY-25 retiring
* Tom Reynolds NY-26 retiring
* Randy Kuhl NY-29
